Well, This guy I know wanted to fly Alaska... I thought O great, he has no idea what he is getting into. The -200 is a crazy beast that demands respect and all hands on deck upstairs if you know what I mean. So when he applied I chuckled at what was about to happen to this magenta line jockey. Comfortable in his cozy glass cockpit with automation that will keep you out most of trouble that you can conjure up.
Well step into the -200, and that goes away real quick, and the first thing you can think of is; We're not in Kansas anymore Toto! This new recruit is a friend of mine and wanted a shot at the old GUPPY. This was a three month process of which I am sure there were some blood sweat and tears spilled out on the virtual cockpit floor. Okay maybe not the blood and the tears, but I am sure the sweat.
In any event he suffered engine failure, holding single engine in IMC, engine out approach, EO missed approach, EO ILS Landing, ILS approach full procedure turn, ILS landing to minimums, and finally an IOE in which dispatch was barking at him the entire flight.
Yes there were mistakes made and do-overs to complete, but this pilot showed grit and determination to get this done, and that he did. Most people would limp home with their tail between their legs after the first challenge...not this guy! He drops the piano blows the landing gear through the wings and says "well, that wasn't good, may I have another!"
That's the pilot I am looking for, always pressing forward no matter what~welcome CoHo!
